Cape Canaveral (NASA) - President Obama was awarded United Air Force, United States Navy, and United States Marine Corps pilot wings the same day as he is awarded NASA Astronaut wings. Later that day NASA announced that President Obama was selected as Astronaut of the Century.
Obama's instructor pilots were shocked since he was unable to perform the canopy drill, turn on the radios, or identify the start button on the jet.
President Obama commented on his pilot wing awards saying "let's get some smack ... errrrr ... I mean't to say smash".
Later that day President Obama commented on his selection as Astronaut of the Century saying; "ground control to Major Tom .... heeheehee".
The NASA selection committee defended their choice saying; "Obama is the original space monkey."
